WAARC Radio License Class scheduled for Spring 2024
The Williamsburg Area Radio Club (WAARC) will offer a radio license class this spring. Class dates are March 25 – April 26, 2024, and will be from 9:00am – 12:30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with additional class dates of Thursday April 11 and 25. All classes will be held at the James City Bruton Fire Station multipurpose room at 3135 Forge Rd, Toano, Va. 23168.
Due to room availability, only one type of license class will be scheduled, depending on registration requests. The two types of license classes are an entry level Technician license or a General upgrade class. Registration requests should be made to HamRadioClass@yahoo.com indicating your name, email address, phone number and the class you wish to enroll and any manuals desired (see below). Please include your call sign if you’re interested in the General class.
***Enrollment Deadline – March 11, 2024 ***
The class is free. However, there is an administrative fee of $15.00 for the license examination. A license exam session (open to all) will be Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 9:00 a.m at the same location. After the exam the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) charges $35.00 to process a TECHNICIAN licenses. This fee must be sent by you to the FCC. It will not be collected by WAARC on exam day.

TECHNICIAN – For this class you will need a copy of the Fifth Edition of the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual (HRLM). You can obtain it through the class coordinator (email above) at the discounted price of $26.25 or obtain it on your own directly from the ARRL at the link below. You can also obtain the manual from Amazon or other sources. Just make sure it’s the Fifth Edition. If purchased through the coordinator no payment is due until you receive your manual on the first day of class.

GENERAL – For this class you will need a copy of the Tenth Edition of the ARRL General Class License Manual (GCLM). You can obtain it through the class coordinator (email above) at the discounted price of $26.25 or obtain it on your own directly from the ARRL at the link below. You can also obtain the manual from Amazon or other sources. Just make sure it’s the Tenth Edition. If purchased through the coordinator no payment is due until you receive your manual on the first day of class.

Although not required, some Technician students also purchase the Eighth Edition of the ARRL Tech Q&A Manual. Likewise, some General students purchase the Seventh Edition of the General Q&A Manual. These manuals provide more in-depth explanations of the questions used in the written examination. You can obtain these manuals through the class coordinator (email above) at the discounted price of $12.00 or obtain them on your own from the ARRL, Amazon, etc.
